Canary is a monitoring system to help older people live independently at home for longer. Canary works by monitoring movement, temperature and light levels and sends a message if anything unusual happens. These useful insights help families feel reassured that their relatives are coping on their own, and helps with making decisions about when extra support is needed.
It uses four wireless sensors, each slightly smaller than a light switch, to monitor the movement of a person around their home, the ambient temperature inside, light levels and any visitors they have through the day. Visitor cards can be given to people who call regularly – carers, cleaners or friends – providing a record of when they visited and the time they spent.
Canary has its own built-in mobile connection, so it doesn’t need a phone line or internet connection to be installed. The home hub unit will send minute by minute information to the highly secure Canary central system. Family and carers can have secure access to the information through easy to understand graphs. Rules can be configured very simply to send alerts when something might be amiss for example send an alert if Mum hasn’t been to the kitchen by 10am.
